Custom Report Types: Best Practices

If you have a lot of users in your Org running reports, or if you just have a lot of custom report types- it can get overwhelming relatively quickly.

Try placing a C_ or C: in front of each custom report type (in Setup, that is), so your users know if the report they're about to run is a standard SFDC report, or a custom report type that may (hopefully not) need updating.

Salesforce Report Naming Conventions

I just stumbled upon this great little hack from Scott Hemmeter at Arrowpointe that I had to share...

Apparently using a colon in your report name will display the name of the report on two separate lines.

Check out the before and after:

As Scott mentioned- I can't find this documented anywhere from Salesforce. Check out the original post from Scott here: http://bit.ly/UsingAColonInTheReportName

Chatter Reporting, Dashboards, and Analytics

Inspired by a tweet from @GeraldineGray "Can you report on #chatter or do I need to install an App (for that)", I did some digging and it turns out you do indeed need to install an App for that.

While we've yet to turn on Chatter here at HubSpot (due largely in part to Chatter either being globally on or off, without any middle-ground), I found this in the Salesforce AppExchange: http://ow.ly/36tIq

The (free) app includes 20 pre.configured dashboard components, 25 included reports, and 7 custom report types.

Any early feedback on this?
